3-Hole Cowbell Razz Round Playoff
Following the Pro tournament on Saturday, we will, as always, be holding the infamous and exciting winner-take-all 3-Hole Cowbell Razz Round Playoff:

  • The Top 4 Pros in the tournament will participate in the Razz Round and will select their caddies from the Pros who finish 5th-8th in the tournament

  • The player/caddie teams will be designated as the Red Team, the Blue Team, the Green Team and the Yellow Team and each caddy will be given a colored vest that will correspond with his/her team's designated color

  • The Razz Round participants will play holes 16, 17 and 18 (and as many sudden death holes as possible to break any potential ties)

  • Before the Razz Round begins, spectators will choose which colored team they want to support and will be given a red, blue, green or yellow wristband and cowbell that will correspond with the team they are supporting

  • Spectators will have an opportunity, DURING PLAY, to yell, ring their cowbell and distract, to their heart's content, those players who they are not rooting for. The only rules here are that spectators may not place themselves between a thrower and the basket, must remain at least five feet away from a thrower, must remain at least three feet from the teepad and may not enter the putting circle. Other than that, anything and everything goes.

  • The winner of the Razz Round will collect $1000 AND the caddie for the winner will receive $100 AND spectators who root for the winning player can turn in their winning-colored wristband to collect a free disc as a prize!

Needless to say, you need to stick around for this exciting playoff if you can, if for no other reason than to try to win yourself the free disc!

2018 USADGC Qualifier

For those coming over to Nantucket the morning of the tournament, please be aware that the  ONLY  ferry that will get you to the island in time for the tournament on either day is the 6:15 AM Hy-Line High-Speed Ferry. Free transportation to the course via private vehicles will be provided to those arriving on Nantucket on this ferry at 7:15AM on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

For those wishing to bring their vehicle with them to Nantucket, please be aware that this is, unfortunately, very costly and difficult to do. To start, the Steamship Authority traditional ferry is the only ferry that can accommodate passengers with vehicles. The cost to bring a vehicle to the island on this ferry is $400 round-trip during September and vehicle availability for weekends in September is usually very limited, unless booked well in advance. All this said, we encourage those coming over to the tournament to leave their vehicles at the ferry lots in Hyannis and take either public transportation to the course/campsite/lodging or the tournament-provided free transportation from the Hy-Line ferry terminal to the course on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Finally, booking an island home on VRBO or Airbnb for a group might also be a relatively economical option.

3-Hole Cowbell Razz Round Playoff
Following the Pro tournament on Saturday, we will, as always, be holding the infamous and exciting winner-take-all 3-Hole Cowbell Razz Round Playoff.

The Top 4 Pros in the tournament will participate in the Razz Round and will select their caddies from the Pros who finish 5th-8th in the tournament. The player/caddie teams will be designated as the Red Team, the Blue Team, the Green Team and the Yellow Team and each caddy will be given a colored vest that will correspond with his/her team's designated color.

The Razz Round participants will play holes 16, 17 and 18 (and as many sudden death holes as possible to break any potential ties). The winner of the Razz Round will collect $1000 and the caddie for the winner will receive $100.

Before the Razz Round begins, spectators will choose which colored team they want to support and will be given a red, blue, green or yellow wristband and cowbell that will correspond with the team they are supporting. Spectators of the winning team can turn in their wristband after the round is over to collect a free disc as a prize!

Spectators will have an opportunity, DURING PLAY, to yell, ring their cowbell and distract, to their heart's content, those players who they are not rooting for. The only rule here is that spectators may not place themselves in line of sight of a shot and may not physically distract players in any way. Other than that, anything and everything goes.

Needless to say, you need to stick around for this exciting playoff if you can, if for no other reason than to try to win yourself the free disc!

2017 USADGC Qualifier
The 2016 Nantucket Disc Golf Open is a 2017 United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship Qualifying Event.

- All Advanced (MA1) players in the 2016 NDG Open will be automatically entered into qualifying for the 2017 United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship, held in Milford, Michigan in the early summer of 2017 (specific date tbd).

How it works:
- Players finishing in the top 15% (rounded up) of the MA1 division will receive invitations to play in the 2016 USADGC, a PDGA Major event.
- If there is a tie for the final spot, all tied players will receive an invite to the USADGC.
- If a player has already qualified for the USADGC, he is used as a "spoiler" and his final position counts as one of the qualifiers in your event.

All major ferries to Nantucket from the mainland leave from Hyannis, MA. The two ferry companies that provide this service are:
Hy-Line Cruises Ferries - 220 Ocean Street, Hyannis, MA 02601 (800-492-8082)
Steamship Authority Ferries - 69 South Street, Hyannis, MA, 02601 (508-477-8600)

All this said, we encourage those coming over to the tournament to leave their vehicles at the ferry lots in Hyannis and take either public transportation to the course/hostel/campsite or the tournament-provided free transportation to the course on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

2014 Maple Hill Open Qualifier/2015 USADGC Qualifier

The 2014 Nantucket Disc Golf Open is both a 2014 Maple Hill Open Qualifying Event and a 2015 United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship Qualifying Event. So, whether you're a pro or an amateur, you'll have something big to play for.

Pros who wish to play for a 2014 Maple Hill Open spot simply need to pay a $10 opt-in fee when registering for the 2014 NDGO. The top 3 Pros that opted-in will earn spots to the MHO. Players may be from any Pro division, so long as all rounds are played from the long tees. Ties will be broken by sudden-death playoff. Previously qualified players cannot compete for spots. At the awards ceremony, players who qualify will receive a qualifying letter. Keep in mind, that the 2014 NDG Open is (other than the Five Spots Tourney held at MH the day before the MHO) your FINAL chance out of 24 MHO qualifying tournaments held worldwide to earn a spot at the prestigious 2014 Maple Hill Open, held just one week after the NDG Open.

All Advanced (MA1) players in the 2014 NDG Open will be automatically entered into qualifying for the 2015 USADGC, held in Milford, Michigan on June 5-7, 2015. NDG Announces Hiring of Youth Program Director

09/18/13

Nantucket Disc Golf is pleased to announce the hiring of Michael Harter from San Francisco, CA as our new Youth Program Director. Mike is an accomplished disc golfer, has many years of experience teaching tennis to youths, and is very excited about his new role in which he will promote disc golf as a healthy, inexpensive, year-round, recreational alternative to the youth on island.

In addition to his amazing first day on the job visit to the Boys & Girls Club today (thank you B&G Club!), Mike (pictured in the black sweatshirt) has plans to meet in the coming weeks with younger students at the Lighthouse School, the New School and the Community School to demonstrate the sport of disc golf and provide group driving and putting lessons. For those schools and youth organizations that are interested, Mike plans to follow up his initial visit with regular trips with these schools' students and teachers to the disc golf course, with the ultimate goal of helping establish self-sustaining disc golf programs within these schools and youth organizations.

Mike is also planning to visit with older children at Nantucket High School this week and next to demonstrate disc golf in the PE classes and to recruit students to be a part of a new NHS Disc Golf Club at the school.

If anyone has any thoughts on how Mike and Nantucket Disc Golf can better serve the community, please don't hesitate to reach out. I must say, after spending 3.5 years obtaining permission to install the course and spending 1.5 years installing the course, Nantucket Disc Golf is very excited about finally being able to focus virtually all our energies into fulfilling our original and primary mission to promote disc golf as a healthy recreational alternative to the youth on the island.

A huge thanks to Mike Harter for coming on board to help us begin the process of making this dream a reality.

Thank You Avery, Valarie and Nate!

08/28/13

What an incredible two days of instruction and disc golf fun at the NDGC!

A huge Nantucket Disc Golf thanks to Avery, Valarie and Nate for coming out to Nantucket and putting on the clinics.  It was a truly amazing couple of days and we all learned so much about backhand and forehand driving, putting and more.  And I gotta say watching them compete on Monday and playing Doubles with them on Tuesday was an absolute blast!  Best of luck to the Champs as they continue their tour throughout the Northeast and prepare for the USDGC coming up in just a few weeks.

Nantucket Disc Golf Course
Nantucket Island, MA
Free & Open to All

NANTUCKET (July 12, 2013) - Nantucket Disc Golf is pleased and excited to announce that three former PDGA World Champion Disc Golfers will be visiting the island next month and will be holding several disc golf clinics at the Nantucket Disc Golf Course that will be free and open to all.

Avery Jenkins (2009), Valarie Jenkins (2007-2009) & Nate Doss (2005, 2007, 2011) are all legends in the world of disc golf, having won a combined 163 PDGA tournaments, including 20 Majors and 36 National Tour events as of the end of 2012. Members of the "First Family of Disc Golf", Avery and Valarie are brother and sister, and Valarie and Nate are long-time partners.

We are so excited to have these legendary disc golfers out to Nantucket during our inaugural year and we encourage everyone, regardless of skill level, to come on out and take part in the clinics and learn more about the amazing sport that is disc golf.  To cater to all skill levels, beginner-, intermediate- & advanced-level clinics will be held over the course of the two days.

Further details on times for the clinics will be announced shortly, but in the meantime, if you're interested in joining us, I'd look into the possibility of taking that Monday or Tuesday off from work so you can attend the clinics and perhaps play a round or two with the pros. This is a once-in-lifetime opportunity to learn from three of the absolute top professionals in the history of the sport at our very own, world-class 18-hole Nantucket Disc Golf Course. Don't miss out!

2013 Nantucket Disc Golf Open Results

07/06/13

Had an UNBELIEVABLE time yesterday at the 1st Annual Nantucket Disc Golf Open! 72 players from across New England descended upon the Nantucket Disc Golf Course for two rounds of action-packed competitive disc golf.

In the Men's Pro Open Division, Andrew Tabaczynski and Cam Gallant were tied at an incredible 10 under par after the second round. Tabaczynski birdied the first sudden-death playoff hole with a beautiful birdie putt and claimed the overall NDG Open victory.

In the "Caddyshack-Style" $500 Top 4 MPO Winner-Take-All 3-Hole Playoff that followed, Jason Dore birdied the first two holes and then eagled #18 (a hole which only one player had BIRDIED all day) to claim the victory. An unreal and dramatic finish to what was an incredible first ever PDGA-sanctioned disc golf tournament on Nantucket! A big thank you to everyone who made this possible. And congratulations to all our other winners at the tournament. We'll see you all next year at the 2014 NDG Open. Can't wait!

2012 NDG Bag Tag Logo Design Challenge Guidelines

2012 NDG Bag Tag Logo Design Challenge

03/09/12

Nantucket Disc Golf is looking to have a spiffy Nantucket-themed logo designed for our bag tags this year.

Bag tags, if you haven’t heard, are weather-proof tags that are sold for a few dollars by disc golf clubs or groups to raise money and promote a little fun-spirited competition amongst disc golfers, from absolute beginners all the way to the most advanced players.

Here's how bag tags work in case you are wondering...Each person who buys a tag will hang it on his or her disc golf bag.  During the year, if you have a higher numbered tag (say, #26) and you see someone with a lower-numbered tag (say, #7), you can challenge them to play a round, a half-round, a putting or long-drive contest, or any other disc golf related competition.  Assuming it is a reasonable time to play, the person with the lower-numbered tag is generally required to accept the challenge.  If the person with the higher-numbered tag wins, (s)he gets to trade tags with the person who has the lower number.  This competition lasts throughout the year and the goal is to acquire (and retain!) the lowest-numbered tag possible, else your friends will tease you having such a high number!  At the end of the year, prizes are awarded to those with the lowest numbered tag in each age/sex group.

A $50 MarshallStreetDiscGolf.com gift certificate (thank you, Brett Watts!) is being offered to the person who designs the coolest and funkiest Nantucket-themed logo for our bag tags.  If you would like to participate and create a design, e-mail me at todd@nantucketdiscgolf.org and I can send you more details on the required dimensions and layout of the logo.  The deadline to send us your design is Sunday, April 15 and Nantucket Disc Golf will select and announce the winner shortly thereafter.  In addition to receiving the gift certificate, the winning designer will forever hold the bragging rights as being the designer of the first ever bag tags for our beautiful, new island course!

Thanks, and happy designing!

December 18 Newsletter

12/18/11

Sorry for the delay in getting out timely updates on the course construction. Fortunately, it's simply been procrastination on my part, and NOT lack of good NDG news to report that is the reason for the delay!

We've actually accomplished a great deal this fall installing the course and I want to say thank you to all the great NDG volunteers who have come out to help clear and mow, and install the teepads and baskets (and the teepad posts and frames).  I'm happy to report that we have 8 holes fully installed (except for the installation of the rubber on the short teepads) and open for play!

To sum up what we have done so far this year...
- finished up 2.5 years of permitting paperwork and began construction in April
- cleared, mowed, and opened all 8 north side holes (see current course map)
- installed the long teepads and the baskets on all the north side holes
- installed the teepad posts & frames at the long & short teepads on the north side holes (the metal map inserts should be arriving within a month or so)
- installed an information board and bicycle rack at the parking lot
- spoke at the New School, distributed discs to all the students there, and subsequently played a few rounds with the New School kids (they are amazing!)

The NDG volunteer crew will continue work on the south side of the course throughout the winter, though I will be off-island for the next few months.  Our goal is to have the final 10 holes of the course fully installed and open for play by August 2012.  At the rate we're moving now, I believe we can accomplish that.  With that said, we're always in need of volunteers to help out with the clearing, so come on out if you can!  Contact our volunteer coordinator, Brett Watts, at brett@nantucketdiscgolf.org for details on dates and times.

This upcoming year, we are also planning on visiting and working with other schools and youth groups on the island to promote disc golf as a healthy, fun, inexpensive, family-friendly recreational alternative...as with the New School, this will include disc giveaways to all the children!

Once, again, a big thank you to all the NDG volunteers this year and happy holidays to everyone!  We'll return with normal newsletter updates in the spring, but until then check out (and join!) our Facebook page for Brett's course construction updates throughout the winter.

Just an amazing day installing teepads.  I want to say thanks to Chris and all the great hard-working families who came out as part of the community service group today.  I told my wife that I thought even the kids today had more landscaping knowledge and experience than I had.  Together as a group we installed one complete teepad and dug out three more.  Will be out there tomorrow finishing out the dug-out teepads and perhaps digging out some more.  Very exciting!

October 30 Newsletter

10/30/11

Back to work we go!

Will be at the course parking lot tomorrow (Monday) at noon to install some baskets. Come on out to help if you can. After the baskets are installed, we still need to install the teepads and signs, and most importantly we need to mow. If you have access to a heavy brush cutter (a skid loader or tractor with cutting attachment, or something of the sort) please let me know...we still have about 3-4 acres of HEAVILY overgrown land we have to cut before we can play.

Check our Facebook page for updates on which days we'll be out there this week...

Hello NDG Friends!

Almost done with the chipping...just a couple of holes left.  A big thanks to Sam and the crew for their hard work over the past week.

Went out with my family and installed eight of the basket sheaths in concrete earlier this week, so all that's left is assembling the baskets, dropping them in the sheaths and locking them up.  Then we'll have eight baskets fully installed on the north side.  The final hole on the north side is yet to be cleared but we hope to get that done within a month.

In other news, we've awaiting the arrival of a sample of a rubber from a company called Fly18.  Fly18 is the premier maker of rubber teepads and pending our being satisfied with the quality of the sample, it looks like we will be purchasing 18 of these teepads for installation on the north 9 holes of the course.

Finally, I wanted to let everyone that if you haven't seen it yet, Nantucket Disc Golf was featured in this month's N Magazine.  A great article that sums up well what we're bringing to the island...a fun, free, family-friendly recreational alternative that can be enjoyed any time of year.

Check it out HERE...

It turns out I'm headed off island for business for a couple of weeks.  Looking forward to returning in early October and to installing the rubber teepads, and to mowing and getting the north nine holes open by the end of the month.

Hello NDG Friends!

A great week with John.  We marked the final locations for the teepads and baskets on the north nine holes and took a tour of the south half and discussed NDG's future work there.  John also drew maps of the north nine holes to use in creating the individual teepad maps we have commissioned.

NDG is bringing in Sam Myers and Nantucket Yard Guard tomorrow and Friday to do the chipping of the felled trees and limbs.  It's going to be great finally removing all the piles of debris.

Oh, and we also received delivery of our Ben Moore-built bicycle rack today and it looks great...check it out!

The trees have been trimmed and we're all set for John's arrival tomorrow. He'll be in town for two days and by the time he leaves Saturday we should know exactly where to install our 18 teepads and 9 baskets on the north 9 holes.  No work this week.  Pending further instructions to remove any more trees or do more trimming, we'll begin installation of the teepads and/or baskets next week at some point.

The course is looking good and things are really coming together now.  Thanks as always to everyone for their continued support.

This week, we're going to finish limbing hole 5, and we're going to tidy up everything in preparation for John's arrival on Sunday. In other news, NDG gave an update on the course progress at Tuesday's Nantucket Town Association meeting...our project was received well and I'm very excited about the possibility of working with the NTA to promote disc golf in the State Forest as an inexpensive and family-friendly recreational alternative on the island.

Hello NDG Friends!

As I mentioned last week, our designer John Houck was in town the last couple of days and we got a LOT done.  John seemed quite impressed with our work on the north 8 holes.  He marked a few more (dead) trees for removal, sculpted the fairways a bit, and gave us some good instructions regarding limbing up the trees on the fairways.  John's plan is to come back in a month or so and mark the teepads and baskets so that we can install them soon thereafter.

Also, I wanted to announce to everyone who hasn't seen it yet, that we recently redesigned our website, and if I may say so myself, I think it looks great...you can check it out at http://www.nantucketdiscgolf.org. My thanks to Noah Learner at Learner Design for all his hard work putting it all together.

As mentioned last week, John Houck, our designer will be arriving at the beginning of next week to put the finishing touches on the north side. Very exciting.

Also, I ordered the baskets. Unfortunately the application of the cottage red custom coloring means that we won't get them for 4-6 weeks, but I can assure you that once we get them, we'll begin putting a few of them in on the north side shortly thereafter.

Hope to see ya Thursday!

Also, I talked to the course designer (John Houck) yesterday and it looks like he will be coming to the island for a visit in a couple of weeks. Very exciting. Getting his feedback on the final trees to cut, the limbs to cut, and the specific spots for the teepads and baskets will allow us to move forward and put the finishing touches on the north eight within the next couple of months hopefully.

This week, NDG workdays will be:

World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend

05/02/11

Hello NDG Friends!

Wanted to invite everyone out to the South Pasture on Sunday at noon for a little recreational disc golf "tournament" we are holding as part of the World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend. All ages and skill levels are welcome!

WBDGW is a 21-year old international event, founded by our very own course designer John Houck, in which hundreds of disc golf clubs across the world simultaneously hold tournaments to celebrate disc golf and introduce the sport to newcomers, all while raising funds for a good cause.

We'll be setting up around 6-8 temporary baskets Sunday and we'll play on the actual future Nantucket Disc Golf course fairways! We'll have pizza and refreshements, and will be giving away WBDGW t-shirts and discs, along with NDG logo discs. Parking is at the Lovers Lane/Ticcoma Way parking lot.

I wanted to also update you on the course construction...it is going spectacularly and we've done most of the mowing that needs to be done. Just going to go in the next few days for some fine tuning. After the mowing, we will begin our work removing trees and debris, and we'll absolutely need volunteers to help out during this phase of the construction, so grab some gloves and come on out then if you can.

Finally, wanted to let you know that we've posted some great pictures of the course construction on our Facebook Fan page, and we will continue to post pictures in that gallery as we build the course over the next few months. Click here to check 'em out, or better yet, join our "Nantucket Disc Golf" Facebook Fan page (110 members and growing!) for real-time updates on the course construction and more.

Hope to see you Sunday at Noon!

Hello NDG Friends!

Wanted to let you know that our big pre-disc golf course construction volunteer meeting is going to be this Thursday, April 21 at 6pm. Come one, come all. Parking is available at the Easton/Hulbert rotary.

For the most part, the meeting is simply an opportunity for all the wonderful Nantucket Disc Golf volunteers to meet each other and visit prior to construction. We will however sit down for a few minutes and discuss logistics, everyone's availability and access to landscaping equipment, and our plans for the next few months.

Speaking of plans, I can now confirm that the mowing in the South Pasture will take place from April 22-30. If you can't make the meeting, come on out during that time if you can to help us out or if you just want a tour of the future course. We will be removing dead trees beginning May 2 and would love your help during that phase of the construction as well.

Hope to see you Thursday!

NDG in the I&M

04/07/11

Hello NDG Friends!

If you haven't already seen it, I wanted to let you know that there was a great article on the front page of today's I&M sports section about Nantucket Disc Golf!

I think Peter did a great job summing up what we have accomplished so far and describing exactly what it is that we're bringing to the Island. Most importantly, he communicated quite well how the environmentally-sensitive, inexpensive, year-round, family-friendly sport of disc golf is a sport that fits in so well with exactly what Nantucket needs.

If you haven't read the article yet, check it out!

Hello NDG Friends!

Are you ready for some disc golf? If so, I've got good news for you...it's go time.

Yes, indeed, after a false start last fall, NDG just this past week completed and signed our MOU with the State and it's time, finally, after two and a half years of preparation, to begin work on the course in the South Pasture! Check out the Massachusetts DCR Press Release here .

The plan right now is to begin actual work on the course mid-April and have all the mowing done by April 30. At that point, we will most likely be bringing in heavy equipment to remove dead trees and clear debris from the course. Then later in the summer, we'll be fine tuning everything and installing the baskets and teepads. At least that's the plan. Throughout this process, we'll need all the volunteers and equipment we can get, as this is going to be a big project.

Please do let me know when you all think would be good days and times to work and I'll do my best to develop a work plan that will accommodate the schedules of as many of you as possible. Will get back with you all here in a week or so with a preliminary plan and by hopefully by then I will have more details as to when specifically we'll be getting out there to begin the work.

I want to thank everyone for their support over the last couple of years. I really am excited that we finally have completed all the required paperwork and I am looking forward to joining everyone out in the South Pasture soon to begin work on this exciting project to bring disc golf to Nantucket!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you all a quick NDG update and pass along a special invite.

Nantucket Disc Golf lept over yet another legal hurdle this past Wednesday when the BOS approved the newly revised MOU between the Massachusetts DCR and Nantucket. Now, we just have to finish up and sign the NDG/DCR MOU and pass that along to the Building Department for approval. Once we get that, we'll be all set to begin clearing. Cross your fingers!

Also, wanted to let everyone know that John Houck, our course designer, is in town this weekend putting his finishing touches on his design of our course. By Monday night, he should have everything completed and he's expressed interest in having an informal get together then to meet everyone and discuss the project. Here are the details...

Hangin' with Houck
Mon Dec 6 from 5-6:30pm
Drinks and appetizers
No dress code
Come one, come all

Hope to see you guys then...it should be a fun and informative early evening discussing OUR new disc golf course on Nantucket with the legendary Houck himself.

Hello NDG Supporters,

It looks like we've encountered a little legal issue that's going to delay the start of our "Big Clearing" just a bit.

Nantucket Disc Golf is currently working to finish up our Memorandum of Understanding with the State and we expect this to be completed and signed within the next couple of weeks. This is our final obstacle and once we get this out of the way, we'll be ready to roll.

In other news, NDG has just hired a graphic design firm to redesign the nantucketdiscgolf.org website. A lot of very cool things are planned for the site and we expect it to be up and running within a month or so.

Stay tuned for more information regarding the "Big Clearing" and thank you to everyone for your patience and support!

This week, there are no work days scheduled. Up next is NDG's "Big Clearing", which is currently scheduled to begin the weekend of October 15-17.

NDG is going to need as much help as possible for the Big Clearing so please plan on coming out if you can. We've got some truly heavy machinery coming in to do much of the brush cutting and chipping, but it is going to be up to the NDG volunteer crew to work closely with those operating the machinery in order to ensure an efficient first weekend of work. Our duties will include tree felling, debris removal and more.

Next week, I will send along some more specific information regarding the exact dates and times of the Big Clearing. In the meantime, spread the word about this upcoming exciting phase of our project!
